]]>The piece was about turning the idea of luxury on its head and how businesses can be pivoting to be a force of good. Beck spoke about the dangers of Greenwashing and what sustainability means at PRIOR.
It's so great when publications reach out to us to comment on local shopping, ethical suppliers and supporting makers from Bristol. We've always prided ourselves on championing the voices of other makers, and there are so many people involved in the Prior Project now - all ethical, handmade, sustainable brands, that we just can't stop talking about!

"Perusing Bristol’s thrivingly bohemian Old Market Quarter you’ll find the independent co-op store and workshop space Prior, happily vibrating with design-led, contemporary creativity. Every unique piece is handcrafted using sustainable or recycled materials. Of particular note are founder and maker Rebecca Prior’s wonderfully imperfect collection of geo-faceted vessels, lamps and vases, all made using reclaimed hardwoods. A guilt-free haven for unique, forever picks, everything in Prior is thoughtfully made with care and intent. priorshop.uk"

]]>Shop Bristol is a directory of 23 lifestyle and present stores from across the city. Spearheaded by the owner of Prior in Old Market, Beck, the aim is to make sure money is given to smaller businesses during the festive season.
“We are a collection of independent Bristol businesses that offer a range of beautiful and unique Christmas gifts for everyone,” Beck says.
“If you shop online in the local stores listed below, you are not only supporting the local designers and people who own and run each business, but also putting money back into Bristol’s economy and communities. Your support keeps us going.”
They wrote 'Shop-local for gifts to support and celebrate diversity, craftsmanship and innovation' - and we couldn't agree more. Thank you for the feature, Country Homes and Interiors!
]]>‘I’M CHALLENGING THE IDEA THAT RECYCLED MATERIALS MEANS LOWER QUALITY ’
The piece of jarrah is a dark sepia brown, with a grain so tight it is hard to make out. Some 200 years ago, this tree was chopped down in the southwest corner of Western Australia. It was brought to Bristol and hammered into the silt of the Floating Harbour to form a dock for Georges Brewery, at their site opposite Castle Park. With the development of Finzels Reach it emerged from the muddy water into daylight again, drying out and being bought by designer Beck Prior from a recycling centre. In her newly fitted-out retail space and workshop on West Street in Old Market, she handles the jarrah gently, showing the cuts she will make to give it a whole new life.
