Handmade prints celebrating some of the non-human inhabitants of the city, the seagulls and pigeons of Bristol, drawn simply but emphasising the moving pattern of city life.
Description
Screen printing is one of the oldest forms of print, originating in China over a thousand years ago, and is a form of stencilling. These simple prints are created by painting with Chinese ink onto film, which is then transferred to the silk screen. They are printed by hand one colour at a time using a squeegee, sometimes with the addition of watercolour applied by hand.
The prints are made in small numbered editions, and each will have slight variations due to the process and the variations in the paper, which is handmade in southern India. They are a celebration both of our urban fauna, and the spontaneity of the painted line.
