Colourful and contemporary jewellery hand made from recycled sterling silver and polymer/resin clays
By Clare Lloyd.
‘I use recycled sheet, wire and tube. My silver comes from UK suppliers and I melt down my own scraps of silver to make new earrings. One of my suppliers also offer a recycling scheme where I can send back a pot of scrap silver and they will melt it down for me and send it back as wire or sheet. I occasionally use brass from a supplier in Frome or recycled gold.
I use polymer clay and resin clay for my colour inlays. Both of these materials are robust and long lasting and doesn’t generate any waste in my making processes.
My studio is made up from old antique and inherited hand tools – I use my grandfathers old pendant drill and hand tools, and I have inherited an old work bench and a whole heap of silversmithing tools from the jeweller who taught me. My studio is bit like an old man’s workshop!’
