Old Man Winter is linked to the myth of the Holly King, and is a traditional symbol of winter. In folklore, he shares control of the natural world with the Oak King, ruling the cold, dark, sleeping world from the Autumn Equinox until the Spring Equinox, when the Oak King awakes.
